Sacraments -> Baptism
Infant Baptism
To baptize a child at St. John the Baptist parish, it is expected that at least one of the child’s parents are practicing members of the Catholic Church. There must be a well-founded hope that the infant will be brought up in the Catholic religion.
Parents will need to participate in baptismal preparation.
God-parents
There is need for only one baptismal sponsor (godparent); however, it is common to have two. To be admitted to the role of sponsor, a person must:
- Have completed their 16th year.
- Be a Catholic who has been confirmed, regularly receives the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and lives a life in harmony with the Catholic faith.
- If they are married, they must be married in the Church.
Adult Baptism/Conversion
We take part in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is a process that takes a person on a faith journey through out the liturgical year. It is meant to foster deeper conversion. Even if a person is already a baptized Christian, we ask that all converts accompany us in the RCIA process.
